January 28, 2023: Off to Cuba
Ruth: On Monday we head to Cuba for 5 weeks of cycling. Cuba is longer than Vancouver Island at 1250 kms and covers 109,884 km2 . In five weeks we will concentrate on the central region of the country. Travelling these days carries no guarantees. We are hopeful that our bikes and luggage will arrive with us after our three flights. If they don’t : Gord had the brilliant suggestion that we pack our swimsuits, snorkels and flippers in our carry on just in case. We could be happy for days just looking at beautiful fish. Our first stop is at Carbonera just 6 kms from the Varadero airport. It’s a small village with an excellent snorkeling beach.
Buen camino!
But be careful, you might catch Catholicism in Cuba. In spite of that communist thing. And they say Justin Trudeau’s biological father is Fidel Castro, so you know they like to party down there, too.
I wish I still had the photo of my step Grandmother smoking a cigar with Castro at a health conference in Cuba.
Enjoy the trip. Looking forward to your blog posts. For the bikes, get AirTags! Like the old ad would say, “Don’t’ leave home without it!” 😉
Ok Bob you sent me out on a last minute shopping spree. Two for our bikes two for our passports. Never regretted the last item you recommended ( orange brake pads for grandma Friday)!
Always look forward to your blog! Have fun you guys! And the Air Tags are a good suggestion. We just got some of them and it was fun tracking our luggage.
Likewise!
How wonderful! Have a wonderful time, enjoy and I’m looking forward to many amazing pictures!!
Also, Ludger says hi and wishes safe travels 🙂
We will do our best Doris. Internet will not be fast or always available. Hugs back to your green buddy.
Buen Viaje, You may want to bring a few give aways for the natives
