June 12, 2026 – tourist day in Bordeaux – Unforgettable Stay Heart of Bordeaux apartment 

June 13, 2026 – Bordeaux to near La Sauve – 30 kms – Havre de Paix Chambre d’ Hôte

Ruth: With several days before we need to be in Toulouse for our flight home, we decided to take a train to Bordeaux and begin the the bike route Le Canal des 2 Mers towards Toulouse.   ://www.canaldes2mersavelo.com/itineraire/le-canal-des-2-mers-a-velo

We hope to get as far as Moissac before we run out of time. This time the route is designed for cyclists like me and Gord can adapt as needed.  We were briefly on this route earlier in the trip when we were on the Canal du Midi. Now we get to see a bit of the other side of the canal. 

We spent two nights in Bordeaux to have a peek at the city. We rented a place one block away from where the Camino route from Tours passes through Bordeaux.  It was all I could do to not get a stamp in the Cathedral. We did visit the Pilgrim Office and had a lovely chat with a volunteer from Quebec and another from Lyon. While we were there another Québécois walked in looking for information. We purchased a map that lists all the Camino routes in France. 

We are considering a future pilgrimage on the Chemin de Tours, but after passing through the tedious Landes region on the train, I’m not sure that we want to do that route. I suppose a week of monotony wouldn’t kill me. Otherwise it is supposed to be a beautiful route. It would also take us through Poiters and the surrounding area where Gordon’s French roots are. 

We are never very far from a camino in France. Tonight we are staying at a chambre d’hôtes that is very close to the ruins of the Abbaye de la Sauve- Majeure. It’s one of the UNESCO listed churches for the Camino de Santiago. I love discovering Camino traces in unexpected places.
