May 7, 2024 – Salvatierra – Vitoria – 28kms – Apartamento

May 8, 2024 – Vitoria – Miranda de Ebro – 35 kms – Pensión Matillas

We have now come over 3000 kms from Budapest and 1020 kms from Arles.

Today was one of my best riding days ever. It started with a good climb over a mountain pass and then a slow descent along a ridge with stunning views of the mountains in the distance and the valley below. Gord had the camera and my iPhone just wasn’t up to the task of capturing the expanse of beauty. If you have done the Camino Francés, then imagine the Meseta in springtime and add mountains and hill towns on either side of the broad valleys. My bike route passed through the tiny hamlet of Cucho, with a population of 41, and the most elaborate chimneys adorning the half timber framed houses.

This morning we said goodbye, again, to Béatrice.  She completed her Camino in Puente La Reina and then joined us for two nights and a day of walking before she headed home to Sweden. She was a great walking companion for Gord and really fun to be with. We are also saying goodbye to the Camino de Vasco as we start making our way on the lesser used branch of the Camino Olvidado that begins in Pamplona.
