June 5 & 6, 2025 – in Warsaw with Ewa and Tadek.
June 7, 2025 Warsaw to Nowy Secymin – Pokoj Kon z Kominkiem – 61 kms
Ruth: We were not planning to see Warsaw, but when we heard that our friends Tadek and Ewa were renting an apartment there, we changed our route to go and visit them.
Our focus was on a social visit, but I really enjoyed Warsaw as well. Ewa took us on a great tour of the new and old town. I can hardly believe that everything was painstakingly rebuilt after the Nazis destroyed the city in revenge for the Warsaw Uprising. Ewa remembers as a girl contributing some of her own money so that the Castle could be rebuilt.
Our second day we walked and relaxed in the sprawling Łazienki Park. Tadek joined us for dinner at a Czech restaurant and later we went out for a cup of sensational hot chocolate. Perhaps Polish hot chocolate is even better than what they make in Spain.
We met Ewa on the Via Francigena in Italy in 2013. The last two years she joined us on our Caminos in Hungary and France. This year it was our turn to visit, and this was the principal reason we chose Poland for a cycling trip.
I knew I was going to like Tadek from Ewa’s stories, but it was a great pleasure to get to know him in person. They are in Warsaw while Tadek’s grandmother’s flat is being renovated.
Having left Warsaw, we are now going down the Vistula towards Gdansk. We will visit Ewa and Tadek again in late-June at their home in Gdynia. I can’t wait!!!

Fantastic! What a trip. xoxoxo
