Yesterday was a rain day. It was only the fourth soaker on the trip so far.
It feels like something magic when the rain stops. Suddenly an overcast day is fantastic and a small square of blue, or a ray of sunshine makes me feel jubilant. Today we had a number of these moments after being chased across the landscape by occasional thunder storms.
It was a wonderful day. After a beautiful breakfast in Latisana I started out in a light rain. It intensified enough that I stopped to pull on my rain paints. Once back on my bike the rain cloud passed and the rain stopped. I was off my bike again peeling them off.
I caught up with Gord and we walked together along a few canals and wheat fields. I am walking more now while the cycling is flat and very easy. I bought removable pedals so I can walk and not gash my shin; that is, if I remember to remove one before walking. I need to keep my exercise level up so that I can continue to eat all the wonderful foods that are available here.
Eating is such a pleasure in Italy. Tonight we bought fresh trofie pasta and amatriciana sauce which we topped with gran padano cheese. With a salad and a dessert of fresh peaches and chocolate salami I was in heaven.
Today was a particularly special eating day for Gord because for the first day in a month nothing tasted like his rotten socks. He is not certain when it started, but we suspect that a previous covid infection has screwed with certain taste receptors. Of all the mixed matched flavours one could have, it’s horrible that his had to be rotten socks. He’s concerned about how it will affect his plans to train as a sommelier.
Between storms we explored the beautiful city of Portogruaro with it’s leaning church tower and charming river

Ruth, the street person! Did anyone give you change? Ohhh, my….

Such a nice journey to tag along with you my friends!!!!
peaches and chocolate salami?! Sounds like the perfect antidote for someone who tastes rotten socks… perhaps a hybrid mascarpone to go with the calze putrido and scarpe.
I dear NO!!
