December 6, 2024 – Bangkok (BKK) – Bang Ka Nak – 56 kms – tt Residence

Ruth: Our ride from the airport was a delightful surprise. We connected with a bike path fairly quickly and then pocket earth guided us into a zig zag of small roads and raised concrete paths following canals. We only had to back track a few times.
The land is pancake flat in this part of Thailand and water is everywhere. Arriving in Thailand just after the rains is stunning. The flowers line even the bigger highways, and water lilies spring up in the smallest ditch. In addition to lots of water birds we spotted a huge monitor lizard walking across a side road.
On our first night in Thailand I heard my favourite mystery bird again. Now armed with my Merlin app, I was able to identify it as a Asian Koel, one of the many types of cuckoos in South East Asia.
Gord’s knee is working well on the bike and the only complaints were coming from me about my out of shape muscles adapt to their new routine.

who or which of you (or both) plan these excursions?
they don’t just happen from nothing.
(I am the Trip Planner on our team)
Keep on postin’
Both of us are involved in trip planning. One of us will suggest a possible destination, then we do some research on the likely weather using weatherspark. We discuss the appropriate duration for the trip and develop some possible arcs. Ruth does most of the detailed planning regarding sites we won’t want to miss. As you know, travel is much more than the time you are away; it is planning and expectation in advance, and memories afterwards. We enjoy all of the components.
