December 5, 2023 – Taipei to Shimen Reservoir – 50kms – One Plus One Motel
As we pulled up to the motel they were proudly advertising their three hour rate . Hummm, could this be a love hotel? This is a luxurious version by contrast to the ones we have seen in Thailand. Unlike the shower curtains to hide your car in Thailand, we have our own private garage (perfect for discretion or bike storage). The room is located above the garage and it is huge, with a glitter wall, a king size bed and a gigantic tv. The bathroom is as large as the bedroom and has a full size jacuzzi and a huge array of toiletries – even a complementary condom.
We cycled out of the centre of Taipei on the river bike path. Freeways stacked three deep roared above us, but we wound along the river below with only the birds and a few other cyclists. We stopped for a small lunch in Sanxia on their beautifully restored “old street.”
After Sanxia we joined Highway 3and started climbing a bit into the hills. The rain joined us for the climb but it’s pleasantly warm. Gord broke a rear derailleur cable on the climb, but there was a Giant store enroute and it was fixed in no time. Taiwan is such an easy place to travel.
We couldn’t find the light switches anywhere in the hotel room. We suspected that perhaps sleeping is rare and lights are needed. We finally pulled out the card and had darkness.
Whether or not love is in the air, this is a great place!

Looks like a two-person tub!
Yes but someone has to keep the camera dry.
Gord you look so funny next to that lady 🚴♀️ 😂……..…quite a poster🤣
Who knew the Girl with a Pearl Earring rode a bicycle in Taiwan! Happy trails. Watch out for Taiwanese ticks….
Ticks are everywhere, but less in Taiwan than Canada.
